Ayr Rugby Football Club

On Saturday Ayr travel to the Greenyards to face top-of-the-table Melrose.

Ayr, who set the pace for the league early on, fell off top-spot last weekend with a disappointing defeat to Heriots. They now find themselves three points adrift in second but a win would propel them back out in front of the pack for Christmas.

The Greenyards has played host to some epic encounters between the two sides over the last few seasons- most notably the last two Premiership finals.

It is a formidable fortress famed for how well Melrose defend it. But, with that in mind, Ayr have enjoyed success in the borders and know what it takes to topple the reigning champions in their own back yard.

Out of the last three games at the Greenyards Ayr have walked away victors twice and will call upon that experience on Saturday when they aim to get back to winning ways after a bump in the road last weekend.

In the backs Scott Lyle earns his first start at full back for the club, with Warrior Paddy Kelly in the midfield. There is only one change in the pack with Ruairidh Sayce getting the nod at loose-head.

Ben Paterson and Grant Anderson both drop to the bench, with Amir Rademaker back in the mix after a spell with the 2XV.

The 2XV also make the trip to the borders and take on Melrose Storm. Both games kick-off at 2pm and you can follow the action every step of the way on Twitter @OfficialAyrRFC.
