Ayr Rugby Football Club

Peter Murchie has announced his four candidates for Slater Menswear Player of the Month for Nov/Dec and as always the winner comes down to YOU! Nominated are current POTM Frazier Climo, Harry Warr, Peter McCallum and Danny McCluskey.

A mixed bag of results saw Ayr hit a minor speed bump over the past two months but return to fine form to close out the year at the Greenyards. November opened with a 29-3 win over Edinburgh Accies before a 24-23 loss away to Chieftains. In December Ayr left it late but ultimately found victory at Bridgehaugh, beating Stirling County 25-27. A defeat to Heriots followed before Ayr toppled Melrose in their own back yard to return to pole position in the league at the winter break.

Frazier Climo - The kilted kiwi has continued his impressive start to the season with another barnstorming run of form. Tallying up 48 points in 5 matches - including three tries - the headline act for Climo came in the biggest game of the season so far when he inspired Ayr to down Melrose 15-32, contributing 22 points. His form was rewarded with a call-up to Rob Chrystie's Scotland Club XV squad.

Harry Warr - With injuries providing an opportunity for the youngster to get a good run in the 1XV Harry Warr has grasped his opportunity with both hands. A cool head in what was often chaotic surroundings, Warr came off the bench against Edinburgh Accies and went on to start the following four games.

Peter McCallum - Club Captain Peter McCallum has managed to battle past injury to solidify his place in the starting line-up. Playing out of position at open-side has illustrated the traditional number eights versatility. His return to the squad off the bench away to Currie saw him dot down after just thirty seconds on the park. McCallum has been rewarded with a late call-up to the Scotland club XV squad.

Danny McCluskey - The clubs vice-captain has once again shown how valuable he his on both ends of the field. A wall on defence and a threat going forward, McCluskey grabbed our only try of the Heriots game with a well weighted grubber into space. In similar fashion, his kick-through against Melrose resulted in a try for Paddy Dewhirst which ignited Ayr's emphatic victory. McCluskey also earned a club XV nod from Chrystie.

Voting closes on Friday 21st at 5pm.
