Ayr Rugby Football Club

Ayr and Ayr Ladies have finished their pre-season preparations with a win each in friendly matches.

The Ladies played an enthralling match against Cartha Ladies at Dumbreck on Friday evening, and snuck a 22-21 win at the death. It was 17-year-old debutante Neve Finlay's last-minute try that got them the win, but the patience and commitment of the whole team are to be praised as they came up against a fierce home side. Ayr's other tries came from Caitlyn Haldane, Hannah Mutton and Emily Irving, with Catherine Shennan converting one.

On Saturday morning, Ayr travelled to Bridgehaugh to play Stirling County, and won 38-12. Captain Pete McCallum opened the scores before Jamie Bova got a brace, and Michael Badenhorst, Frazier Climo and Euan Hamilton each dotted down. Scott Lyle kicked four conversions. Match report to follow.

Ayr Ladies' training sessions on Mondays at 7pm at Millbrae are open to any newcomers who wish to give women's rugby a try. Rugby is a great way of getting fit, making friends and having fun, and Ayr Ladies are a welcoming group of all ages and rugby abilities.
