Ayr Rugby Football Club

The month of October saw Ayr RFC in action four times, picking up 16 points out of a potential 20.

The month started with a 17-36 road win at Boroughmuir, before action returned to Millbrae for a 42-7 victory over Hawick. Next up was Hawks, who were dispelled with a 5-29 win. The last game in October proved Ayr were mortal, as a Watsonians win brought to an end their eight-game winning streak to open the season.

Peter Murchie has put four players forward for Slaters Menswear October Player of the Month"

  • Frazier Climo
  • Alfie North
  • Steven Longwell
  • Stafford McDowall

Frazier Climo - The kiwi has been in scintillating form this season having already tallied 105 points in just eight games (missing the opener vs Edinburgh Accies). In October he racked up two tries, eleven conversions and two penalties. The fly-half was at the heart of everything that went well for Ayr, orchestrating the attack in his usual cut-throat fashion.

Alfie North - After starting the season with the 2XV Alfie North has grabbed his opportunity to play 1XV with both hands. He was thrown into the Boroughmuir game last minute and proved his mettle instantly. Since then the forward has held onto his jersey and provided grit and go-forward with scathing carries. The Gloucester Academy star has settled into life north of the border with ease.

Steven Longwell - The tight-head was up to his usual tricks in the month of October. Spearheading the pack's assault on the Tennents Premiership, Longwell has proved to be as equally devastating on the loose as he is come scrum-time. He picked up two tries in October and his second is an early favourite for try-of-the-season. He was Slaters Menswear MOTM against Watsonians.

Stafford McDowall - The centre has been in electric form since returning to the team. McDowall opened the month of October with back-to-back braces against Boroughmuir and Hawick. His performances have been acknowledged by the Glasgow Warriors, with the Stage Three Academy player starting tomorrow night against the Ospreys.
