Peter Murchie has today announced that Scotland U20s star Ross Thompson has joined the bulls alongside Ayr RFC Hooker Alex McGuire.
20-year old Thompson is a Scottish Rugby Forsroc Academy Stage Three player along with already-announced Bulls Ollie Smith, Euan McLaren and Marshall Sykes. The Fly-Half has notched up 20 appearances for Scotland U20s and was vice-captain for the 2019 U20 Six Nations. Peter Murchie described Thompson with: “He is a young ten who has managed to get a fair bit of experience under his belt from playing in the Premiership and U20s. He has a good running and kicking game and we think he will fit in well with us. “He has also developed his leadership skills through his experience with the 20s, which is important in such a key position. I also think the chance to work alongside Frazier Climo will be great for his development”. Thompson joins from Tennent’s Premiership outfit Glasgow Hawks.
Alex McGuire joined Ayr from GHK last season and was a main stay in the historic matchday squad that secured a league and cup double. The 21-year old settled into life at Millbrae with ease and bagged a brace at Mansfield Park against Hawick which is hard to come by. Peter Murchie is excited to see how McGuire can develop: “Alex had a big step up last year coming from National Two, but he handled it well and got plenty of game time. His ball carrying is very good and he has a big physical presence on the park. “We look forward to seeing him compete this year and I think he has huge potential to improve his game”.
